The seeds for the formation of RSDC began with one of the largest data migrations and IT architecture projects in our nation’s history: the stand up of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Starting Big
Information technology projects are often complex and require the collaborative efforts of a cohesive team. Never was that more true than in 2001, when Ryan Denmark, then an employee of a different contracting firm, was brought in to help lead a massive undertaking: the establishment and migration of IT structure and data to the newly formed Department of Homeland Security (DHS). With deep experience in software solutions, IT contracting, and a deep respect for the first responders the efforts would serve, Ryan tackled the monumental project with focus and drive. Through the experience, on fire to work again in support of the federal government, Ryan went on to co-found RSDC.
Building it All from Scratch
And they were right. In a time before cloud storage, before methods existed to securely transfer massive amounts of data, RSDC made it happen. As the central point of contact between the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the evolving DHS, our team architected a custom software and data storage solution from the ground up. The opportunity to stand up a new agency provided the opportunity to craft a solution completely tailored to the unique needs of the burgeoning department in an extremely tight timeline: born in the post-9/11 era, the establishment of the DHS needed to be swift and error-proof, in order to best protect the American people. Our solutions were online and ready to go on time or early and are still at work today. If we can do it at that scale, under those circumstances, we can do it for you.
The Challenge at the VA
In 2012, a report from the Veterans Affairs Office of Inspector General found an incredible backlog in veteran’s files, with folders stacked in boxes so high, they posed a threat to worker safety and even exceeded the load-bearing capacity of the buildings themselves. In part due to the lack of efficient access to records, veterans were waiting extended periods of time for even basic medical care. The result was disastrous for hundreds of vets. In response, RSDC earned the contract to create and build a solution that would convert the paper-based system to digital and make those records accessible globally. Unfazed by another monumental task, we dug in, architecting and implementing a ground-up solution with the input and insight of the VA staff. With veterans our team, we were driven to create a better experience for them, and their fellow comrades in arms. The results of our efforts continue to do just that, decreasing veteran wait times, and increasing staff productivity. In a subsequent contract, we created and migrated VA data to cloud storage, saving the organization $100 million per year in storage costs.
The Big Picture
In those cases, and others, RSDC was chosen for the bottom-up creation and stand up of solutions vital to the safety and wellbeing of millions. We never lose sight of that fact and the deep responsibility we hold in all that we do.
